A constantly evolving vision

Ada Batun, originally from Guatemala, opened a Spa in Downtown Los Angeles on November 11, 2011. She had long suffered from severe depression and found a path to full recovery in massages and aromatherapy. She also managed to stop taking the medication and control her depression. She decided to go back to school and study to be a massage therapist with the desire to help people like her who were going through a mental illness such as depression.

“Opening the spa in downtown Los Angeles was quite a challenge since we did not have the necessary resources or credit, and we were also in the middle of a recession.” – Ada Batun

Unfortunately, on April 30, 2018, they had to close because the building was registered as industrial and did not have access for disabled people. For this reason, their operating permit was not renewed. They searched for another commercial space but found nothing within their budget. They made the decision to provide mobile services and run the business from home. This brought many losses and much learning, and new opportunities.

While they continued with the business, they kept looking for a commercial space to reopen the spa and provide better care to their clients. The pandemic stopped this search, and it was not until July 2021 that they managed to reopen in downtown Los Angeles at 1200 S Broadway, Los Angeles – inside D.T.L.A. Fitness.

Despite the challenges that have been presented, Ada Batún remains firm in the vision she has for her business. She is in constant learning, attending conferences, community events, and networking groups to promote her business and make new friends.

“Thank you, NEW WBC, Libia Berbesi and Lily Alger, for all the support you have given me and for always helping me find what I need in the workshops you give.” -Ada Batun

Kure Spa continues to provide its mobile services and currently serves 5 counties. They have managed to create more than 10 jobs. Today, they also have a location in downtown Los Angeles where they will begin to offer various new services and products.
