Third Annual Valley Day of Service
New Economics for Women (NEW) recently collaborated with Assembly member Jesse Gabriel for the Third Annual Valley Day of Service, a remarkable event aimed at fostering community involvement and enhancing the San Fernando Valley’s beauty. This initiative brought together dozens of community groups and nonprofits to undertake various service projects throughout the area. One of the highlights was NEW’s effort to plant water-friendly, drought-resistant shrubs and flowers at their facility in Canoga Park, contributing to the area’s aesthetic appeal and sustainability. The Valley Day of Service offered a diverse range of volunteer opportunities catering to different interests and skills. Participants had the chance to make a meaningful impact by assembling homeless outreach kits, preparing sandwiches for those in need, and engaging in projects to support seniors, veterans, and other vulnerable groups. Additionally, attendees at Pierce College had the opportunity to learn life-saving CPR skills from American Red Cross certified instructors and donate blood in partnership with Cedars-Sinai. Moreover, collaborations with organizations like Haven Hills and OneGeneration allowed volunteers to create no-sew blankets for domestic violence survivors and craft items for homebound seniors, respectively. The event was not just about service but also about fostering connections and community spirit. Beyond the various projects and activities, attendees had the chance to meet adorable rescue dogs ready for adoption from Foxy & the Hounds. With its wide array of meaningful activities and partnerships, the Third Annual Valley Day of Service was a testament to the power of community engagement. NEW and its partners look forward to making next year’s event even bigger and more impactful, encouraging everyone to join in and make a difference. |
