“Harmon Oaks was founded on principles of community and a passion for education. Our goal is to give parents the ability to work during the day while feeling at ease, knowing that their children are cared for in a safe, enriching, and care-centered environment.”
Harmon Oaks NOHO West is a daycare center that cares for around 100 beautiful children. Mariya Danayan, the co-owner, took us on a tour of her North Hollywood location, showcasing the wonderful work she and her team are doing. Mariya co-owns two centers: the one we visited in North Hollywood. Another on Balboa in Van Nuys is called Harmon Oaks Nursery School.
With over 15 years of experience in education and childcare, Mariya holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology (2007) and a master’s degree in educational psychology (2010) from California State University, Northridge. She also earned a College Counseling certification from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2010. As the Director at Harmon Oaks, her responsibilities include implementing, reviewing, evaluating, and maintaining quality in the curriculum, overseeing the admission process, interviewing, hiring, and training staff, and supporting and evaluating staff.
Harmon Oaks focuses on STEM, RIE, and Reggio early education, emphasizing science, math, and literacy. Like the primary location, most activities are conducted in small groups to address each child’s individual needs. Planned activities cover multiple areas of development. Harmon Oaks offers three core areas: language, math skills, and science. The curriculum includes 20 minutes of reading time, along with 20 minutes dedicated to math and science. Additionally, language enrichment is provided in American Sign Language, Spanish, and Armenian. Other programs include Yoga, Dance, and Soccer.
Mariya has received support from several programs, including the WBC, which assisted her with her business plan. She is currently seeking a loan through our partner, Golden State CDC, to expand her business and potentially hire 13 new employees. We are excited to support her new venture and help the children’s families with a parenting program.
